Carl is a terminally ill artist struggling to find peace. After a meeting with his unenthusiastic therapist he is sent to a retreat. However, this retreat does not provide him with the artistic freedom he was hoping for. Instead, he is confined to a small room and his art is stripped away from him in order to produce Triterite, a canned food produced by a large corporation. Carl's stay at the retreat is narrated by two news reporters whose stories are parallel to Carl's emotional state. In the end Carl has enough and succumbs to the cooperation, he himself becomes Triterite.
