The Bomb Under the Table
Hitchcock was famous about building tension with the audience knowing something that the actors don't. Like having a bomb under the table wherein the audience knows its there but none of the actors do so as it's getting closer and closer to blowing up and the actors aren't leaving, the audience gets more and more tense. You had the right idea but you really needed to establish more intrigue with the box. Bring the audience in the loop so that more tension is build when the actors aren't aware
Great Twist
When this film starts I am not totally into what is going on, but I found my self needing to find out why this box was on her bed to start with. I find there was too much time spend on why not to open the box when we could have spent more time on the girls drive to crazy with needing to find out whats in the box. In this case less is more, we don't need so much dialog to tell the story. The actor can tell the story with out talking by reacting and being distant in though once the plot is set.
But what's in the box...?
This film had me guessing what is in that box!!! It had an interesting twist ending. I do not thin I could have lived in a dorm with touching beds, however, I did get the feel of a small dorm room. The night shots needed lighting as it was hard to see what was going on. Good efforts and I can tell it took hard work.
The Intrigue of the Box
I really like what you're attempting to do here. It's very Hitchcock to put something in the room and create intrigue around it. With that said, really develop the script so that the box lives up to the suspense that you're hoping to create. You had the necklace in the beans in the end and that really could have been a great pay off. You were on to something you just needed a little time spent in development to really have built more suspense and had a nice pay-off.
Canned Beans?
The story setup was pretty good. I totally understood it was a young woman headed to college. I didn't understand why she got the package in the first place and why it would be so horrible to open it? The dialogue was difficult to hear so I think I missed some stuff. I laughed out loud when she opened it and realized it was only beans. When we finally got to see what was in the can, I really wanted to know the backstory.
