Awake

In this film there is a young girl named Miranda, she is in a post-apocalyptic world, and has been on her own for about a few months. She accepts the fact that everything and everyone she ever knew is gone and there's nothing that is gonna change for her. She starts to get bored with her repetitive lifestyle. Until one day she falls and gets knocked unconscious for a long period of time and dreams of when things were better. She realizes her dreams are much more happier and vivid than her real life and from there tries to spend every moment she had sleeping rather than being awake. She tries to tier herself out, sleep more, daydream more. Just so she does not have to suffer the repetitive and loneliness she experiences every day after everything normal in her life changed. She's hoping one-day things will get more excited or she will stay asleep.

I felt like I was in the Blair Witch Trial. I like the use of nature shots and the idea of the post apocalyptical world. I didn't understand the film, but there were some pretty landscapes.

Doing a film as a poetic expression really allows you to push the limits when it comes to lighting but more easily in the composition. When she's awake which is the time when she's uncomfortable what can you do to really show that she's uncomfortable? Move way back and make her REALLY tiny in the frame. Put her in an uncomfortable/unnatural part of the frame. Really play with the composition to the extremes to really tell the feeling of your poem. It's a great opportunity to explore.

You have the basis for a great story and you've outlined it quite well in the summary but don't rely on the fact that everyone will read your summary. It all needs to be in the film. I would have really liked to have learned more about her situation, just like you told in the summary in the film. You have it, you just need to show more. You've got a great idea, it just didn't all make it to the screen.

You had some great beauty shots in there. Loved those.

This story was interesting. The prompt for this challenge was all about lighting and composition. I didn't feel that there was a great deal of attention given to either. The exposure was good except for the night scenes. Cameras aren't sensitive enough to get a good image in the dark. The filmmakers needed some light to augment the moon. I liked the story though and I think you're on the right path.

Oh Sister Where Art Thou?

This is a pretty interesting piece. I think the color could have been altered a bit to feel a bit more apocalyptic. To look at another film that has a similar look in the woods, Roger Deakins' Oh Brother Where Art Thou? I think there was a shot in there with some cars. The night stuff looked under-lit and could have used some light pumped in there so you could see the character.
