The 5th Dimension
Classic stuck in space, time, place story with a tie-in wake-up call to a dream foreshadowing reality.
The Fifth Floor -
Lighting - Good
Audio Good
Don't forget to use the tripod - or stabilization in post
Remember it is a great big world outside of just the hotel area.
The Fifth Floor Review
This film had a good story. always good to see a good old stuck on the same floor and can't escape flick like grounds hog day. if you can tie in better audio and camera work. you will have a very good short. don't use a lot of reverb for the talking and thinking to your self part of the short. this is distracting. Use of dollies or smooth tracking software for your shot walking around the actress in the elevator lobby will help enhance that particular scene.
Missing a Few Elements
The film had a promising premise but lacked some execution. Lighting was stark and did not fit theme. Music was odd. It did not build tension/suspense. Camera noise was very prominent and distracting. Cuts were uneven. Camera work was unbalanced. Shots in elevator were creative.
Fun Idea, Character Needs a Quest
Your main character needs a quest, and the audience should know what's at stake if they fail in their mission. In the movie's first shot, she says, "I'm running to get coffee..." in this moment I would create a quest with a line like, "You can't threaten me like that, I'M OUT OF HERE!" The audience now knows that she really NEEDS to get out of that room because something is at stake if she doesn't.
Minor stuff - I wouldn't show the bad guy on screen. I liked your elevator shots.
Keeping It Simple, Making It Awesome
We said to keep it simple and this is a great example of doing just that. Because they didn't overestimate what they could accomplish, they were able to spend more time composing better shots, and getting better performances. Well done! You could have tightened up the heads and tails of quite a few cuts, which would have sped it along, but I was super impressed with how well you did.
