Silver Sketches

A young aspiring artist and his happy-go-lucky pal grow up together in a quaint farm town, until the artist has to move away from his true muse, his best friend.

Philip and James are best friends. James is an avid drawer and Philip is his ultimate muse. The boys go to a field where James and Philip have a good heart to heart. Here you see how supportive Philip is and what real friendship is. The boys later go to the Silver Falls. Here is where James tells Philip that he is moving away. Of course Philip thinks nothing of this, he knows that their bond is strong enough to hold them together no matter what the distance. However, this is not the case.

After James moves away it is a few weeks before Philip calls. During their phone conversation, it seems as if the boys will be friends forever. Philip checks up on James drawing and how his life is going. It is very apparent that James misses Silverton and Philip. After James hangs up you watch as time passes and they are now much older.

James walks into the senior center and Philip looks up and immediately recognizes his best friend. James invites him to his art show that he is having at a local art gallery. Philip graciously accepts. The next day he arrives at the art show. James shows him his art and Philip realizes how familiar the art is. It is pieces from their childhood. Philip was always the light in James artwork and his life.

A flash forward

Great story line and attention to detail. I liked the time jump and it was easy to follow. Great use of foley in many scenes.

Simple and Sweet

This project had a sweet and quite interesting subject. Most people would have chosen a really dramatic thing to make their film about and this team decided to take something really simple and explore it. I commend you on that. The young actors were well portrayed, but I think there should have been a color shift from the young to the old a bit more. Very well done!

Art is Life

Nice work. I enjoyed seeing all your effort with casting. You had some great cinematography when you were shooting in nature. When you went inside it suffered. It would have been great to have see you take some time to light your interiors. Your performances could have used a bit more rehearsal to have it feel a bit more natural but I like the scope of what you decided to shoot. You also had some thought out transitions. Keep honing your skills.

Sketching Through Time

A sweet story told well. Some serious sound issues throughout the film. Especially with waterfall and with the older characters. The cuts were distracting in the early parts of the film. But story was easy to follow.
